Pack for Days out with The Kids

When you’re out and about with the kids, you have to pack smart and pack well – be prepared for any situation, without bringing the kitchen sink. How can you do it without being a superhero?

Baby Changing Bags

This is an art form, and here’s how you perfect it:

  • Buy a bag with lots of pockets and make sure you use them for the same items each time: this saves you time rummaging around looking for things in the bag when you’re trying to change a diaper in a crummy bathroom somewhere.
  • Make a checklist of the things you need, and ensure you have them before you leave the house: spare diapers, extra outfit, wipes, diaper rash cream, sanitary baggies, cloth, bib, bottle, spare pacifier… you know the drill.

  • Dress your children in layers: even though it’s warm outside, indoor air conditioning can be cold. Heavy sweaters aren’t great, but with layers you can adjust what they’re wearing and make sure they stay comfortable indoors and out, whatever the temperature.
  • thick pair of booties will ensure your kid’s feet stay nice and cosy.
  • Don’t forget waterproofs in case it rains: soggy kids are unhappy kids.

Managing your kids on public transport can be a nightmare: you’re struggling with a stroller, trying to hold hands with the other child, etc. Consider a sling if your baby is small, as this will free up your hands when getting on and off transport. Another suggestion is to consider leaving an expensive stroller at home and bringing a cheap replacement in case it gets damaged on a trip: airlines for example often don’t pay for damages!

Everyone has different words of wisdom on how to keep your children well behaved when out in public.

  • One popular piece of advice is to make sure you bring lots of snacks, as this can distract them from bad behaviour or enable them to eat if they’re peckish and grumpy.
  • Do your best to ensure they’re well hydrated and entertained during the journey as this can help to alleviate any temper-tantrums later in the day.
  • If you’re going to a particular attraction, teach them about it first. For example if you’re going to the Zoo, read about it together first so he or she knows what to expect and gets excited about the animals.

Going out with the kids can be tricky, but with the right preparation you can all have a great time with as little stress as possible.

Black & Decker 20V MAX Lithium Pivot Vac Review

Black & Decker sent me one of their new Vacs to test out and I have to say that I LOVE IT!

You see, I have been desperately wanting a little cordless hand-vac for a while. A long while. And, did I mention desperately?

I currently have a big, older vacuum that I hardly use because we have no carpeting in the house. About every month or so the amount of ‘unintentional trailmix’ covering my van floor gets out of control and needs to be vacuumed out. Lugging the big ol’ vacuum outside, searching for the single coveted extension cord, and trying to reach that hose across the van without the vacuum falling over and penetrating one of my children’s skulls gets a little monotonous. This is the desperation I’m talking about.

My Interview with Jonathan Scott from HGTV

I recently had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interview Jonathan Scott, start of HGTV’s shows Property Brothers and Brother Vs. Brother.

Unless you are living under a rock the size of Rhode Island, you have seen Jonathan, and his twin brother Drew doing some amazing things with houses on their shows.

Here is what Jonathan had to say in response to my questions:

$0 Office Makeover plus $100 giveaway

After much deliberation I chose this Sauder August L-Desk in Oak.

It was pretty easy to put together too…so I hear. Of course, I had my husband do all of the dirty work, but I swear, he told me it was pretty easy.

ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent Dark Bronze Lantern Review

ThermaCELL sent me one of their Dark Bronze Lanterns to review.

?????(photo courtesy of

We are in full bloom mosquito season here in NC and our back yard is no exception.

We have some wooded areas around us and after a good rain the mosquitoes come out swinging…or biting…or stinging, whatever it is they do.

I’m not a fan of bug spray but we do use it if we have to. There are other options out there and they can be pricey, dangerous, annoying, etc.

Ozeri Green Earth Textured Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan Review

Andrea from Ozeri sent me their 8″ Green Earth Textured Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan to review. {ARV $59.99}

You can get them on sale right now for just $25.95 through Amazon Prime!

I was using both traditional non-stick and cast iron pans in my kitchen and I have to say that this ceramic pan sets itself apart from both of those.

My traditional non-stick pans have started to flake apart at the coating and that is not something I want getting in my food as I cook.

SelectSpecs Glasses Review

Kathryn from sent me a promotional code for  a pair of glasses from their Economy Collection.

I usually wear contacts, but do need to have glasses to wear when my contacts are out (late night, early morning) or if my eyes just need a break once in a while.

I do not want to purchase expensive glasses since I do not wear them much, and also because I have a 2 and 4 year old at home. Yes, they have destroyed my glasses in the past.

ChargeKey Portable USB Charging Cable Review

I was sent a ChargeKey Portable USB Charging Cable to review {ARV $29}

The ChargeKey is available in 2 different formats to accomodate both the iPhone 5 and micro usb phone devices.

I have a Google Nexus phone and it worked perfectly for me. I always seem to run out of phone battery when I am working on the computer outside as my girls are playing in the backyard. I am quite a distance from the nearest charging outlet so it was always an issue for me.
